As our country suffers an economic crisis Congress takes time off.
The actions by Democrats and Republicans in this time of crisis is disgusting. Instead of round-the-clock analysis and negotiations our representatives take two days off for the Jewish High Holidays.
While it is important to allow Jewish elected officials to spend these two days in observance of Rosh Hashana, what prohibits the rest of Congress from continuing to work on a solution? Absolutely nothing! Businesses and schools aren't closed. Banks are still open. Wall Street is still in operation.
Instead these elected officials are going home for a few days.
The presidential candidates speak of non-partisan efforts and not assigning blame in one breath and in the next tell us that the current mess is the other guy's fault.
The American public can only be fooled so long. If our current set of Congressmen cannot solve this problem, how can we expect resolution of other important issues such as health care and energy.
Clearly, putting our energy future in the hands of Congress is a big mistake. They have had 25 years to deal with the energy crisis and have filled to do so. The lessons of the past week should indicate to all Americans that our legislators do what is best for them and not the American public.
My solution to the bailout is to send our elected officials a message by voting them out of office and making their two day hiatus permanent.
